Deerfield Beach pier closed at night from Oct. 20, 2026: what we know

The short answer

The International Fishing Pier in Deerfield Beach, Florida is closed from sunset to sunrise from Oct. 20, 2026, until further notice, the City's pier page says, citing maintenance needs. The same page still shows posted hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The City gives no end date. Plan a daytime visit and call the pier at 954-250-4167 to confirm.

The City of Deerfield Beach runs the International Fishing Pier through its Parks and Recreation department, and the City’s pier page is where its hours are set. On Oct. 20, 2026, the day we checked it, that page carried a new line under the heading “Upcoming operational impacts”. It closes the 976-foot pier from sunset through sunrise, starting that day, until further notice. This article sets out what the City said, what it left out, and what it means if you planned to fish or walk the pier early or late.

The notice, word for word (checked Oct. 20, 2026)

“As of October 20, 2026, we will be CLOSED SUNSET through SUNRISE until further notice, due to maintenance needs.”

The same page still shows the posted hours: “Pier is OPEN from 6 AM – 11 PM* daily. Holidays may affect hours of operation.”

How the two lines fit together

The posted hours and the notice sit on the same page, and the City has not merged them into one line. Read together, they describe a daytime pier: open no earlier than 6 a.m. and no earlier than sunrise, and closed from sunset, even though the posted closing time is still 11 p.m. That is our reading. The City does not turn sunrise or sunset into clock times for the pier, and it does not say whether the gate opens right at sunrise or some time after.

The notice gives one reason, “maintenance needs”, with no detail, and no end date. We looked through the City’s news posts dated Oct. 14 to 19, 2026 and found none about the pier. Until the City changes the pier page, treat every visit as a daytime visit.

What it means if you fish

Night fishing is off while the notice stands. Older pages that describe evening fishing on this pier were written before Oct. 20, 2026, so check the date on anything you read.

The daytime side of the rate table, effective Feb. 23, 2026, has not changed. Fishing is $4, free with ID for veterans and active military. Rod rentals run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the City says there are no rentals when the bait shop is closed. Angler parking in the pier lot, $10 per 5 hours, is sold when spaces are free and the bait shop is open. The City does not publish the bait shop’s own opening hours, so the rental window is the firmest time we can give you.

If you hold a monthly, six-month or annual fishing pass, the pier page says nothing about the lost evening hours: no refund, no extension and no statement either way. Ask at the bait shop window. Our pier fees article sets out what each pass costs.

Sunrise and sunset visits

The notice is about the pier. It does not mention the beach beside it, and this article does not cover beach hours. If your plan was to watch the sun come up from the end of the pier, that is off until the notice is lifted, as we read it.

Two City programs that begin in November 2026 take place on the sand, about 100 feet north of the pier, rather than on it. GRO Sunrise Meditation is on the last Sunday of each month at 7 a.m. GRO Sunset Yoga is on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in standard time and 6:30 p.m. in daylight saving time. Each class is $10. The City lists both on the pier page and has not said the night closure changes them.

The pier’s Walking Club, for people aged 50 and over, meets Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., and walkers check in at the bait shop window. The City has not said whether the club’s start time moves while the pier stays shut until sunrise. Ask at the window.

  • GRO Yoga & Wellness classes on the sand "Approximately 100' North of the International Fishing Pier", starting November 2026: Sunrise Meditation on the last Sunday of each month at 7:00 a.m.; Sunset Yoga on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. in standard time (November-March) and 6:30 p.m. in daylight saving time (April-November). $10 per class; bring your own mat or towel. "Parking is pay-by-plate." City of Deerfield Beach: International Fishing Pier
  • International Fishing Pier Walking Club: active seniors aged 50 and over, Mondays to Fridays, 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM, free. Participants register on day 1 and check in at the Pier Bait Shop window daily. City of Deerfield Beach: International Fishing Pier

Parking does not stop at sunset

City parking is enforced 24/7, including weekends and holidays, and an overstay citation is $30. In the pier lot the rate goes from $3 to $4 an hour at 4 p.m. on Friday and stays there until midnight Sunday. If you come for a sunset on the sand, pay for the time you will stay. Our parking rates article has worked examples, and the parking page has the zone picker.

  • "Parking Regulations are enforced 24/7, including weekends and holidays." Each citation for parking beyond the designated time frame carries a $30.00 fine. City of Deerfield Beach: Parking
  • Pier Parking Lot: $3.00/hour Monday from 6 AM to Friday at 4 PM; $4.00/hour Friday from 4 PM to Midnight on Sunday. Kirk Cottrell Pavilion has the same rates. City of Deerfield Beach: Parking

What the City has not published

  • An end date. The notice says “until further notice”.
  • What the maintenance is, or which part of the pier it affects.
  • Whether it is linked to the renovation the City approved in 2023 and 2024. The City’s renovation FAQ still gives “Summer 2025” as the reopening estimate; our renovation timeline has the dated log.
  • Holiday hours under the notice. City offices close on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026 for Veterans Day, and the City does not say whether pier hours change that day.
  • Whether pass holders get anything back for the lost evening hours.
  • Clock times. The City does not say what time sunset or sunrise falls on a given day for the pier.

We will not fill those gaps with guesses. When the City changes the pier page, this article and our pier hours and fees page change with it.

  • "The City of Deerfield Beach administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday." (The page does not say whether pier hours change.) City of Deerfield Beach: Veterans Day Ceremony
  • The city's Pier Renovations FAQ still says "Anticipated reopening of pier to the public Summer 2025" and "Base Pier Repairs are anticipated to take 12 to 16 months" (FAQ not updated since; the pier page now lists normal hours and February 23, 2026 rates). Who to call

For pier questions, call the pier at 954-250-4167. The City also lists 954-250-4166 for the pier manager. Ask two things: what time the pier opens and closes that day, and whether the bait shop is renting rods. For sea conditions and flags, Ocean Rescue’s beach conditions line is (954) 480-4413.

The City’s livestream page includes a Pier Camera, which is a quick look before you leave home. The pier page notes that the pier does not maintain those cameras; camera questions go to the City’s Public Affairs and Marketing Department. Our pier cams page links to each stream.

The Can I go on this date? checker applies the notice to any day you pick, fishing covers bait and rods, and plan your visit helps you fit a day around daylight hours.
